Mobile signature vs. e-signature: what's the difference?

A mobile signature and an e-signature are both secure electronic signatures with the same legal effect as a handwritten one under Law No. 5070. The difference is where the signature is stored and how you use it.

The key difference

  • E-signature: your certificate is on a USB token. You plug it into your computer and enter your PIN.
  • Mobile signature: your certificate is on your phone's SIM card. A signing request comes to your phone and you approve it with a PIN. You apply through your mobile operator, and the line must be registered in your own name.

Which is better when?

E-signature: if you sign many documents on a computer, use desktop tools like signing software or UYAP Doküman Editörü, or aren't sure the systems you use support mobile signatures.

Mobile signature: if you don't want to carry a token and want to approve supported actions, such as e-Devlet login, from your phone.

Note: not every institution or program supports mobile signatures, so check first. Changing your line or operator may affect your mobile signature.

Can I use both?

Yes. Some people use a mobile signature for daily logins and an e-signature for heavy document signing. One doesn't cancel the other.
